PARKINSON’S AWARENESS MONTH ⎜APRIL
Parkinson’s Awareness Month is an acknowledgement of the resilience of Canadians living with Parkinson’s disease. We celebrate the contributions of researchers, health professionals, family members, friends, and advocates. Over 90,000 Canadians live with Parkinson’s, a progressive neurodegenerative disease caused by a loss of dopamine-producing neurons which are responsible for movement.  Symptoms include tremors, slowness of movement, muscle rigidity, and balance problems. Parkinson’s can have a significant impact on a person’s ability to function and their quality of life. While there is no cure or treatment to stop or slow the disease, there are drugs and therapies to manage symptoms.
